East End Small Area Plan
EHI was leading the team responsible for the development of a small area plan for Lexington’s East End Neighborhood in coordination with Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government.
The neighborhood consists of approximately 380 acres of land and possesses a rich historical and cultural character. This comprehensive small area plan included extensive public involvement, the examination of economic opportunities, diversity issues, infill development, mixed land use, open public space development, social capital and neighborhood character development recommendations that will drive improvements and further redevelopment.
Further information regarding the East End Small Area Plan public involvement process is listed under the Public Facilitation section of Past Projects.
Bullitt County Transportation Study
For this county-wide transportation study, EHI conducted research and provided a technical document analyzing multiple characteristics as they pertain to the transportation infrastructure within Bullitt County, Kentucky. These included existing and future land use, high growth areas, population and employment forecasts, significant developments, and local government funding sources. Multiple GIS maps were also produced for this technical document.
Bluegrass Pipeline
EHI participated in the development of a routing study for approximately 18 miles of water transmission main from Franklin County to a location along the Fayette – Scott County boundary. Principal tasks for this project included the gathering of planning information to be integrated into a sitting model that produced alternatives which recognized the value of land, its uses, and the relationship of land to development, agricultural preservation, and sensitive land areas. Additional responsibilities included a detailed survey of land parcels and gathering land use and zoning data.
Southend Park Urban Village
EHI developed the Southend Park Urban Village Plan as to mitigate the social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed Newtown Pike Extension in Lexington, Kentucky. This neighborhood exists as an isolated, mixed-use area that with the development of Newtown Pike would expose the neighborhood and impose pressures that will eventually displace the primarily low-income residents. For the plan, EHI assessed the neighborhood’s existing conditions, analyzed data, and led participation in stakeholder meetings. Additionally, the plan included a traditional plan development, mixed-income housing including units with a minimum low-income requirement, supportive services for residents, and mixed-use development.
Ashland Corridor Study
For the Ashland Corridor Study, EHI completed a scoping study for potential corridors that provided an improved connector route from Interstate 64 in Boyd County to the vicinity of downtown Ashland. For this project, EHI developed an environmental justice study addressing the demographics, land use, socioeconomic characteristics and legal authority for the corridor.
Milton-Madison Bridges Project
The Milton, KY – Madison, IN bridge project is a comprehensive study to determine whether the existing Ohio River crossing should be replaced or rehabilitated, where the bridge should be located, and the type of bridge that should be constructed. EHI is involved in various aspects of this project including a detailed socioeconomic / land use study to examine the areas close to U.S. Route 421 in order to determine environmental justice areas, identification of bicycle and pedestrian deficiencies and opportunities, preparation of the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Plan (DBE), a corridor study user benefits analysis, and GIS mapping.
