EHI developed the Southend Park Urban Village Plan as to mitigate the social, economic and environmental impacts of the proposed Newtown Pike Extension in Lexington, Kentucky. This neighborhood exists as an isolated, mixed-use area that with the development of Newtown Pike would expose the neighborhood and impose pressures that will eventually displace the primarily low-income residents. For the plan, EHI assessed the neighborhood’s existing conditions, analyzed data, and led participation in stakeholder meetings. Additionally, the plan included a traditional plan development, mixed-income housing including units with a minimum low-income requirement, supportive services for residents, and mixed-use development.
